Summer is almost here
This is a good time to finalize any weeding and mulch to maintain moisture in the soil for the dry months. Or, if you are tired of standing around with the hose, you could have an irrigation system installed. The month of May is a great time to plant bulbs (gladiollas, dahlias) for summer. Other projects could include checking and repairing your existing irrigation system - making sure there are no leaks or trouble areas where water is being wasted. Late summer is the best time for pruning citrus.

Water conservation
There are a number of ways to minimize water waste in your garden.
- Mulch - for moisture retention, to keep soil cool, which reduces evaporation. Reduces weeds that also compete for moisture. Also stops run-off.
- Irrigation - install drip, adjust and check existing irrigation for leaks, and over spraying walkways, or street. Water in the morning before the heat of the day. For timed irrigation adjust watering time; rather than every other day, every 3rd day, or less.
- Select drought tolerant plants.
